Om Sakthi! Adi Parasakthi! Deepavali wishes. Om Sakthi. Deepavali occurs every year. Man should develop good thoughts. He should be willing to do dharma. He should help the poor. The light from the lamps, which we light during deepavali festival, removes darkness. We must share our happiness during this festival with others, by offering them sweets, clothes, and dresses. We may share the happiness through good words, sweets, and affection.
In olden times, oil was extracted from sesame seeds. With wicks made from cotton and oil, they would light the lamps. In the same manner, right from childhood, we need to develop good thoughts throughout our life, until our death. Whether we do dharma or not, it is essential that we treat others with good words, thoughts, and deeds. This can be developed when people live as a joint family. This is not so easy, when a person lives alone. He may be educated and intends to get married. He must know how to utilize gas in the cylinder. When he lives in a joint family, he must help the members in the ways he can. These days, gas and passport are of great importance. The words that we speak lose their importance as easily as gas escapes into the air. Passport retains its importance only as long as we travel abroad. We suffer from different kinds of diseases.
The festival of deepavali makes us aware of love, affection, and good qualities. The light from the lamps that we light sheds brightness everywhere. The sound from crackers makes us happy. All of us become enthusiastic. Children, parents, and grandparents share the happiness among themselves. Nowadays, even four year and ten year old children know what kind of career they want to pursue. Even elders find it difficult to decide what they need to do. All kinds of sweets must be prepared and distributed among children. It isn’t enough if we distribute sweets. It should be given with affection. When we stand on the sea shore and watch the waves, we never get tired. Similarly, we may never get tired when we do charity. This will indeed make us happy. Unrighteousness will not prevail there. Continue doing charity.
The waves in the ocean never cease to exist. We need to fear the waves, only when they become furious. We do see the destruction caused by storms, floods, and heavy rains, endangering birds, animals, and human beings. When we get enough rain, all living things become happy. After getting up early in the morning, we need to bathe. After paying respects to elders in the family, we must worship God. It isn’t enough, if we simply do that by standing in front of God’s photo. It has to come from the bottom of our heart. We shouldn’t be hasty. Don’t look at the clock. Don’t look at money. There is a bell inside you. Look into your heart. Look at dharma. Look at affection. Try to live in a joint family. Look at everything happily.
When it is the festival of deepavali, there may be music and dance. Everyone will be enthusiastic. We need not worry about what may happen and what may not happen. Our mind and heart must be filled with happiness. Look at the joint families around you. Whether a person is living in his motherland or abroad, they come home and celebrate the festival along with the members of the family. Even if they have other important work to finish, they make certain that they celebrate deepavali with parents and other family members. It is during this festival that we clean our house and the surroundings. Along with that, we need to purify our mind. We clean the rooms, the vessels in the house, the photos, lamps, and all important things. It is essential that we should clean our mind as well. Our mind must be pure. Our actions must be good. Whatever we give others must be given with affection, sincerity, and happiness.
Without thinking that deepavali comes and goes every year, we need to help others in whatever way we can, as long as we live. This should be continued as long as the world exists. Those with enough wealth need to help the poor. This makes the recipient happy. This happiness helps him do good deeds in life. When we look at the rate at which science progresses, we can see that this progress causes destruction as well. The scientists are rather hesitant to admit this. The progress in science, as well as the good qualities we have developed through science never perish. It is the atom bombs and the explosives that cause destruction. We need to be enthusiastic and happy. We must be willing to share these with others.
Golden were the days that are gone. There is no need for us to worry about the time yet to come. We must always be ready to help others. The waves in the ocean are calm, but only when the waters are disturbed does the ocean become furious. When there is unrighteousness, the ocean too becomes furious. It remains within its borders, as long as it is not disturbed. Keep doing dharma. There is a proverb, “A wicked person is better than a good person.” We always observe what a wicked person does. When a good person becomes greedy for wealth, his thoughts too begin to change. He discriminates between the rich and the poor. We need to think that all are alike, whether they are rich or poor. Each one of us has to develop this quality within ourselves.
Using the same dough, we can make confectionaries. We can make sweets with the same mixture, by adding sugar. Nowadays, jaggery is used more than sugar. Jaggery doesn’t cause diseases. Dry ginger, pepper, long pepper, pudinah (mint), and coriander are good for health. We do not know what kind of milk we drink, for milk comes from cattle. We should fill our mind with good thoughts. Our words must be good. What we see must be good. We must have patience. Nowadays, we don’t know whether we must dance to the tune, or compose the tune to the dance. Dance must be done according to the rhythm. Righteousness is indeed essential to a country. The country has to improve. There should be love and compassion in the people’s minds. Instead of finding others’ mistakes, we need to correct our mistakes. We need to live in joint families. We must live with love and in peace. Best wishes from Amma for deepavali. Om Sakthi! Parasakthi!
