Sakthi Olhi, 2002 devotees' experiences translated from Tamil into English.

The 'Weekly Experience' features a devotees' experience chosen from our repository of translated experiences. This experience will feature across all the categories on Angel Grove Studio and 'My Mother' digital magazine. In 1984, my marriage took place. Although I gave birth to two children, both of them died. After that, I had miscarriages. The doctors said that, I wouldn't become a mother. Hearing this, I was very sad. When I was in the hospital, a Sakthi from the Adi Parasakthi Mandram at Ooti came to see me. I told him about my condition. This Sakthi, later on, took me to…

Sakthi Balasubramaniam belonged to Veeranam village, in Nellai district. He is the village officer in Thuthikulam, a nearby village. His wife, Sakthi Visalakshi, is a staunch devotee of Annai (Divine Mother) Adi Parasakthi. She attends every Vaaravazhipaad (weekly pooja). Balasubramaniam doesn’t go for pooja, but he doesn’t stop his wife from attending the vazhipaad (pooja). Once, Sakthi Balasubramaniam and his wife went to Selam after performing the Sakthimalai Irumudi, at Mel Maruvathur. When they came back to their house from Selam, Balasubramaniam developed fever as soon as they entered the house. His face became swollen. He became weak and tired.…
Our family has been living a good life with the blessings of Adi Parasakthi and the grace of Arulthiru Adigalaar Amma, for the last twenty three years. We have undergone several trials and difficulties, one after another. Yet, Amma has been kind enough to help us overcome those difficulties. It is Amma, Who protects us. I would like to share my experience with the devotees, in order to make them aware of the greatness of Amma’s photograph. In 1982, my new house was built. As per Amma’s directions, we performed Velvi. The housewarming function went off well. We named our…
To my family, Arulthiru Adigalaar Amma is our Guru and God. We belong to Chennai Adaiyar Indira Nagar Mandram and do service there. For more than a month, my chin had become swollen. My mouth was also swollen inside. I couldn’t speak. I couldn’t open my mouth, or swallow any food. My husband told me that we should consult a doctor. I was reluctant. I told him that Amma will cure me. As I had not been eating well, my health was affected. Every day, I would smear Amma’s Paada Pooja Theertham on my cheeks. I would read Adigalaar 108…
When we had to face problems one after another, we decided to come to Amma and do Thondu. By Amma’s blessings, my daughter got married. When she was five months pregnant, the doctors found that a tumour was growing in her uterus, along with the baby! The doctors told me, “We are afraid that we may be able to save the mother alone! We shall have to perform surgery to take out the child and then, remove the tumour. There is no alternative, but to do that.” My wife and I stood in front of Amma and begged Her to…
We have been worshipping Amma for twenty years now. Before doing all important things, we go to Mel Maruvathur and seek Amma’s blessings. We don’t do anything without consulting Amma. Once, my daughter suffered from severe pain in her leg. It happened all of a sudden. The veins would pull her leg. She couldn’t bear the pain! While doing practical exercises in the school, she wouldn’t be able to stand. Hence, the teachers would ask her to sit and do the work. It was unbearable for my husband and me to see her suffer. Slowly, she began to bend on…
My wife and I went to Chennai on 9th August, 2000. We went to my son’s house. From there, on the same day, we went to Sakthi Peetham at Maruvathur and came back to Vikramasingapuram on 30th August, 2000. My friend, Sakthi K.M. Subramanian told me very happy news. His only daughter was going to get married. I was very much surprised. I asked him why the marriage was fixed in a hurry. His only answer was, “All because of Amma’s blessings!” I told him to explain. On 13th August, 2000, Sunday, my friend had gone to Mel Maruvathur with…
It was the time, when I was teaching in the Adi Parasakthi Engineering College (Mel Maruvathur). There was a storm raging in my family. My second sister had passed away due to an illness. During December, 2000, my elder sister had to face a lot of problems in her married life and had come back to Chennai. She had been suffering from severe headache and was admitted in a hospital from 29th December to January 2nd, 2001. We had admitted my sister in a famous hospital in Chennai. On January 2nd, 2001, in the morning, she lost her memory. The…
This is a real story that happened in my life. My daughter, R. Laxmi was not well at all. We took her to Dhindivanam Pazhaniraman Hospital. The doctors there told us that my daughter had a heart problem and that she must be taken to another hospital in Chennai. So, we went to Chennai. The doctors at Chennai told us that the surgery would cost `70,000/-. I told them that I did not have enough money. I decided to seek help from my friends and relatives, but no one was ready to help me. I began to worry about my…
The villages, Wadaputhupattu and Keezhmurungai, are two beautiful villages blessed by our Amma. When we look at them, we feel as if a green carpet has been spread. On either side, paddy, sugarcane, plantain, etc. are grown. The sand on the banks of Palaru looks white. Ampur Sugar Factory is situated here. The villages, Wadaputhupattu and Keezhmurungai, are situated on either side of the river Palaru. The Chennai-Kallikkottai National Highway passes through this place. The beautiful Selva Vinayaka Aalayam (temple) is built near the road at the foot of Javvathu Mountains, Nyanamalai. The Selva Murugan Aalayam is built at the…
I have been living in Switzerland with my husband for five years. Although I was reluctant to go abroad, I agreed to marry as I had begun to cross the age of marriage. I came here only with dreams suitable for an average girl. All that I wanted was an understanding husband, who would love me. I felt that I could face any other difficulty in life. Contrary to my expectations, even within a few months, I began to wonder why God has given me this kind of a life. My husband was totally different from what I wanted him…
This happened when Amma came to Madurai district on a spiritual journey. There is a police officer in Madurai. His younger brother met with an accident and suffered severe injuries. The treatment, which doctors had given him, was in vain. He went into a coma. The doctors felt that they wouldn’t be able to save him. His condition became worse. All relatives were informed. A friend of the police officer, who is a devotee of Amma, came to him and said, “Our Adigalaar has come to Madurai now. Somehow, you go to Amma and tell Amma about your younger brother’s…
I have been working in the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board as Junior Engineer, for twenty four years. As far as I can remember, from the days when I had been studying in the Higher Secondary School, I have not had faith in God. I grew up an atheist. Ever since I joined the Electricity Board in 1966, I followed the same path – an atheist. In 1978, I was promoted as Assistant Engineer. From 1979 till 1987, I had been consuming alcohol without limit. As a result, everyone despised me. I would feel sad. I would think, “There is no…
Tomorrow is the beginning of 2000 A.D. It was the eve of the New Year, 31st December, 1999. That night, at 12:00, when the New Year was beginning, I recited Guru Potri fifty one times. I prayed to Amma, “Amma, let more good things happen in this world! Let bad things decrease in number.” While talking about his experience, a Sakthi had said that in order to get our wish fulfilled, we may recite Guru Potri fifty one times. So, I, too, recited Guru Potri fifty one times. I did not ask Amma anything for me. All that I wanted…
My husband and I lead a wealthy life. Even though we had immense faith in spirituality, we thought of Adigalaar Amma as an ordinary human being. We were not able to understand Amma’s greatness. Meanwhile, my husband, who had been healthy, became ill on December 27th, 1999. He was admitted in Mallayya Hospital. None of the organs below his waist could work. His legs lost their strength. Doctors conducted all tests. They found everything normal. His reports said the same. My mother would regularly go to Vannarappettai Mandram. My mother got me archana kumkum and Sakthimalai Dollar. We gave them…
I had been a devotee of Lord Muruga, until 1980. Ours had been a Shaiva family for generations, following all the principles of Shaiva Siddhanta taught by Sage Sivagnanam. Hence, Lord Shiva is our beloved deity. Still, I had been a devotee of Lord Muruga. Actually, I did not know the real ways of worshipping either Lord Shiva, or Lord Muruga. A colleague of mine, named Bhagya Balakrishnan, told me about the miracles at Mel Maruvathur. After hearing what he had told me, I felt an urge to visit Mel Maruvathur and have Amma’s darshan. I went to Chennai on…
‘Guru Manthiram’ – whoever has the Guru Manthiram at the tip of his tongue and recites it at all times attains everything in life. By the blessings and guidance of his guru, whatever he does is successful – says ‘Guru Geetai’. Let me introduce Sri Karu. Muniyappan. He had been an atheist. He did not have faith in Amma. He would say that worshipping God is nothing, but folly. It is in vain. God, Heaven, Hell, etc. do not exist. In this scientific age, only a fool will be ready to accept all these! This particular person has completed his…
One day, in 2002, when only four days were left for Chitra Pournami Velvi... In front of our Temple at Maruvathur, there was a wordy battle between a devotee and the security at the temple. I approached them. The devotee told me, “Sakthi! You, too, live in this temple...! I have seen you several times here. I have come from Sri Lanka. I want to perform Angavalam. The security doesn’t allow me. You tell me what to do.” The security said to me, “Sir, you tell me! Preparations are going on inside the temple for Chitra Pournami Velvi! I told…
In order to draw a new picture of Arulthiru Amma, our Mandram gave rupees one thousand to an artist, Sri Divakar. He agreed. Thinking that Amma is an ordinary person, the painter began to draw the picture. Sakthi Mahendran was one among us, who chose Sri Divakar to draw the picture. When Divakar began to draw, Mahendran approached him and said, “When you have almost completed the picture, before drawing Amma’s eyes, please tell me. After I do drishti, you may complete Amma’s eyes.” But, the artist forgot what Sakthi Mahendran said to him. When he had completed the picture,…
I am a widow. I have three children. It is my mother, who takes care of us. She is seventy years old. The family had been having a hard time. In September, 2001, my mother suddenly became ill. She lost consciousness. Her brain was affected. My family took her to a brain specialist. The doctors said that, the nerves reaching the brain had been affected and hence, she should undergo surgery immediately. They did the operation. It was successful. After two weeks, my mother was discharged from the hospital. After reaching home, my mother was normal only for a day.…
There is a Thonder (devotee, who does service) in our Mandram. In early days, he had been an atheist. After reading books and getting knowledge about Siddhas, he turned towards spirituality. There is a mountain, called Sundara Mahalingam, at our place. People here believe that, even today, Siddhas live on the mountain side. We can find rare fruits and medicinal plants in this locality. This devotee has spent fifteen days on the mountain. He has seen several kinds of black magic and such magicians in front of his eyes. For several years, he did not have a child. His wife…
The meaning of Avataram is “descent” (coming down). According to Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa, God’s Avatars are like doors, through which we can peep at God and sometimes touch His feet. During the time of Avatars, when God descends onto the Earth with a definite purpose, then spiritual and devotional feelings fill the hearts of the blessed ones. It flows like a stream. Whoever, at least once, bows in front of the Avatar, certainly becomes blessed. Worshipping an Avatar doesn’t mean that we bow in front of a human being, thinking that He is God; but, we see the Almighty in…
Among the crores and crores of people, who live in the shadow of Divine Mother and Guru Amma, I am also one. I am a student in the Engineering College and am studying Information Technology. By Amma’s blessings, I am studying very well. When the second year started, in a few days, I began to develop pain in my backbone. When the pain increased, I went to the doctor. Even after taking medicines, the pain didn’t go away. I prayed to Amma that, if the pain decreased, I shall write to Sakthi Olhi. In a few days, the pain decreased!…
I got married in 1993. Ours was a happy family with my father-in-law, mother-in-law, and brothers-in-law. We lived happily for one and a half years. In 1995, a baby girl was born to me. After that, within three or four months, there were differences between my family and my husband’s. The initial rift between the families began to widen. I was compelled to go back to my house with my child. My husband filed a case against me in the court. My husband had been very good to me and I didn’t know for what reason he wanted to take…
